Salpatuuli’s story and mission
The story of Salpatuuli cooperative began in the summer of 2010 from a thought of a wind power cooperative in which anyone could join. The founding members Matias Partanen and Kari Tuominen had long considered options for business within the renewable energy sector. Originally, the idea had been to work with small wind turbines and solar panels, which everyone could afford. But as the production support of the Finnish state was aimed at large wind turbines changed thoughts into wind farms. The idea of a cooperative came from Partanen, who immediately called Tuominen and so the development gradually began. Along the way the coop ran into many obstacles and challenges. They found existing cooperatives abroad and Aland. With time some other enthusiastic people came along. The business model for coop and power generation was completed in the end of year 2012 along Partanen’s master's thesis in technical university. At that time had also the first wind measurements started in Päijät-Häme.
